Eastwood and Caliendo for John Ford Festival

An array of Dublin events are taking place in honour of Ford.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 01 Jun 2012

Long heralded as The Great American Director, with his famed Westerns, John Ford left an indelible mark, not only on film but on music too.

This month, the John Ford Ireland put on their inaugural Festival And Symposium in honour of his influence, including several not-to-be-missed shows, two of which we've singled out for particular attention.

The Irish premiere of Ford's meisterwerk The Iron Horse takes place at the National Concert Hall on Thursday June 7. Not only that, but renowned US composer Christopher Caliendo will be on hand to conduct his award-winning score with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, making for a fantastic audio-visual fusion and a momentous occasion. Go to www.nch.ie for tickets.

A few days later, on Saturday June 9, Kyle Eastwood will play in the Button Factory. Jazz enthusiasts will be feeling lucky, as Clint's son Kyle (a Golden Globe nominated composer and formidable musical force in his own right) will perform an intimate show with his band. Eastwood has composed the soundtracks of several massive films (Million Dollar Baby and Gran Torino being just two) and is a dab hand on the bass. Esteemed directors such as Peter Bogdanovich, Stephen Frears and our own Jim Sheridan will be in attendance. Head for www.johnfordireland.org for full details and tickets.
