Foster The People play ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ with a Mariachi band

Surprise additions to the live tour in Guadalajara, Mexico were special guests and local heroes El Mehor Mariachi De Mehico.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 01 Jun 2012

To the roars of an approving crowd, the traditionally dressed group walked out on stage and played the well-known intro.

Different versions of the song have been popping up online all year, there is even a popular dubstep version, why not a mariachi cover? The video is worth a watch, even just for the novelty value. Over 30,000 people have watched it already.

It could be argued that the American group were pandering to the Mexican crowd, but no doubt some Irish fans are hoping for a céilí version. It is a long-established technique to put a local twist on favourites when touring. As gimmicks go, it is one of the more original ones to feature on a live tour this year.
