Conor J. O’Brien has tweeted his apologies that because of pesky Mount Eyjafjalljokull he won’t be able to make it home today for his scheduled Record Store Day appearance.
“Stranded in Brussels,” he writes. “No way out. Sorry to Road Records and everyone coming to celebrate Record Store Day. I'm totally bummed out. Shit.”
The good news is that the Villagers’ fantastic ‘Becoming A Jackal’ single – which Conor performed brilliantly earlier this week on Jools Holland – is out today on 7”.
Not grounded by volcanic ash and playing a free 3.30pm instore in Road is Patrick Kelleher.
A few hundred metres away in Tower Records, Stornoway, Funeral Suits, O Emperor, Butterfly Explosion, Adrian Crowley (busy man!) and Heathers are among those rocking them in the aisles. Heathers did their own wooing of the TV masses last night on the Late Late Show and are on at 4pm.
In Sligo, Third Wave Music are doing their bit to celebrate Record Store Day with live appearances by two of the area’s hottests acts, Yngve & The Innocent and Pearse McGloughlin.
Residing at 35 O’Connell Street, Third Wave are also promising exclusive releases and some tasty price reductions.
In Mullingar, the equally lovely e2 music still have The Aftermath at 3pm and Julie Feeney at four to come.
Team Hot Press were up early and managed to bag themselves LCD Soundsystem’s ‘Pow Wow’, Paul Weller’s Amorphous Androgynous Remix Suite EP, a lovely Beatles’ ‘Paperback Writer’/‘Rain’ double A-sider, and Editors’ ‘Last Day’ white label, but sadly not Blur’s ‘Fool’s Gold’ 7”, which had people queuing overnight in the UK and is already changing hands on eBay for silly money.
