Islamists force Beyonce to cancel
Beyonce has cancelled a concert in Malaysia after Islamic extremists claimed her performance would be immoral and would present "Western sexy performances."
The concert was scheduled for 25 October. The organisers had previously reacted to concerns that Beyonce might wear revealing outfits, and claimed that all parties had arrived at an amicable understanding over stage costumes.
It’s not the first time Beyonce has raised the temperature of Islamic conservatives in Malaysia, having been forced to cancel a 2007 show because of that country's oppressive dress code.
Women performers in Malaysia are required by law to remain covered from their shoulders to their knees, and cleavage is strictly forbidden.
Last month, Malaysia forbade Muslims from attending a show by Black Eyed Peas because it was sponsored by alcohol company Guinness, and The Pussycat Dolls were fined in 2006 for disobeying the laws during a show in Kuala Lumpur.
