LISTEN: New Scissor Sisters
It's an upbeat, up-tempo affair. Surprised?
The Hot Press Newsdesk, 06 Apr 2012
Having lent his nightclub sheen to Rihanna's monster hit 'We Found Love', Calvin Harris has turned his attention to New York City's finest disco enthusiasts, Scissor Sisters. Other artists expected to feature on the band's forthcoming fourth studio album Magic Hour include Pharrell Williams, Diplo, BoysNoize's Alex Rihda and Azealia Banks.
As you might expect, 'Only The Horses' is quite the pulsating number. Still, does it sound a tad predictable? Judge for yourself below.

Their uncanny ability to blend pop, dance and disco styles with infectious, hummable melodies shows no sign of deserting them. This latest cut taken from their hugely popular Ta Dah album blends Hi NRG rhythms with big power chords and a damn fine tune to boot. Think Blondie’s ‘Call Me’ blended with Duran Duran’s ‘Rio’ and you’re not far off the mark.

With a weight of expectation, it can’t have been easy to come up with a sequel. Wisely, they’ve chosen not to fix what ain’t broke; Ta-Dah sounds exactly as you'd expect, - though on first listen it doesn’t appear to have a single as irresistibly catchy as ‘Comfortably Numb’.

Ironically (or, more likely, deliberately) it takes all of five seconds before the new Scissor Sisters' single awakens in you the urge to get up and dance like a crazy sugar-filled loon. Elton John plays on the track, which is fitting as it is the most Elton John-sounding song the man never wrote himself – lots of ‘70s glam disco flourishes that should guarantee it a place at the top of the charts.
