Considering the TV sitcom has, in recent years, embraced the hyper-realism of shaky cameras and fly-on-the-wall documentary style - from The Office to Parks and Recreation, there's something decidedly old-fashioned about the weird and wonderful Toast of London.
The Channel 4 comedy has been a critical and popular hit through its three-season run, and in the new Hot Press Annual writers Matt Berry and Arthur Mathews tell us the moustachioed thesp may not be done yet.
"I'm sure we can do another series," Arthur tells Colm O'Regan. "There's certainly enough material left over. For example, I have a great idea for Toast based on Tootsie, where he becomes a woman to get acting roles, and is so successful he ends up as the face of a perfume, like Nicole Kidman."
If it sounds rather outlandish, it's only in keeping with the show, which is set in a bizzaro-world version of the English capital.
Berry explains, "The Soho of the 60s and 70s doesn't exist anymore, but for the purpose of this it does. We made it stretchy, so we could fit in ideas, rather than having a defined world where things wouldn't look right."
