Maverick Sabre: "I didn't know who I was"

In a forthcoming issue of Hot Press, Wexford rapper Maverick Sabre talks to Celina Murphy about his meteoric rise to fame.

The 21-year-old, who spent time between New Ross and London as a child, reveals that he never felt fully Irish or English, and that his accent was often the source of playground taunts.

“When I’d go back to London, my old family and friends there would be like, ‘Oh, you sound so Irish,’ but when I came back here I got the opposite, so I was kind of in limbo between the two.

He continues, “I never really felt Irish, I never really felt English. For a long while I didn’t know who I was and I think that’s why I got so heavily into music."
