Movies Monday!

Starring the likes of Tom Hanks, Susan Sarandon, Richard Gere and a few Bollywood icons...

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 30 Jul 2012

The spoiler debate continues with the new five-minute-plus trailer for Cloud Atlas, which by dint of its length gives a great deal away about the centuries-spanning epic starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon, Hugh Grant and Jim Broadbent. We hate to think what they’re paying the talent!

Based on David Mitchell’s 2004 novel of the same name, it’s described as “an epic story of humankind in which the actions and consequences of our lives impact one another throughout the past, present and future as one soul is shaped from a murderer into a savior and a single act of kindness ripples out for centuries to inspire a revolution.”

It’s chopped and changed a couple of times, but the latest release date is October 26.

Movies Monday will be first in the queue for Branded, a Cronenberg-esque sci-fi nightmare of a film “set in a dystopian future where corporate brands have created a disillusioned population. One man's effort to unlock the truth behind the conspiracy will lead to an epic battle with hidden forces that control the world.”

Neil Blomkamp follows up District 9 with Elysium, which fast-forwards to 2159 where the super-rich live on a giant man-made space station and the rest of the population resides on a ruined earth. This teaser give you a taste of what to expect when it hits screens in 2013.

Busy lady that she is, Susan Sarandon also lines up alongside Richard Gere and Tim Roth in the highly topical Arbitrage.

“A troubled hedge fund magnate desperate to complete the sale of his trading empire makes an error that forces him to turn to an unlikely person for help in this gripping thriller,” is the sales pitch.
