My Bloody Valentine to release new albums
Kevin Shields has told the New York Times that My Bloody Valentine are planning to release two new albums.
My Bloody Valentine plan to release the completed record they were working on at the time of their 1997 split, along with a brand new collection of material.
This frenzy of studio activity is being bankrolled by the money they made touring this summer.
“We could actually buy equipment and rehearse properly and do it really well,” Shields reflects. “That put the idea into our head. Last time we toured we never had equipment. It didn’t sound right. We didn’t have control of the environment. So we were kind of excited to play the songs properly.
“I realised that all that stuff I was doing in 1996 and 1997 was a lot better than I thought.”
Asked whether having a few hundred thou in the bank has affected his songwriting mojo, Kevin notes: “I definitely don’t think you need to suffer to be creative. I’ve written some of my best songs when I’ve been happy.”
