Primal Scream's Irish visit documented

Accompanying Primal Scream on their Arthur’s Day visit to Dublin were a camera crew who were down the front as Bobby and the boys tore first the Silver Granite in Palmerstown and then the Grand Social apart.

They also documented Mr. Gillespie, a massive Thin Lizzy fan, making a pilgrimage to Philo’s statue outside Bruxelles and then meeting his mum Philomena in the Westbury.

“Thin Lizzy were a big inspiration,” says the singer. “Growing up in Glasgow I knew a lot of people of Catholic Irish descent. I guess there was always that link to Ireland and being a Celtic supporter.

“Thin Lizzy were a big part of my life, I saw them four or five times. I play Phil a lot, I love his voice; he’s one of the greatest rock stars ever. We sometimes play ‘Don’t Believe A Word’ in soundchecks and stuff. It’s a big thing to meet his mum; it’s amazing. You can tell she’s got the spirit, she’s a big personality.”
