The Calvinists set for Play On The Day final
The Bantry band look set to make a real challenge for top honours...
The Calvinists are the winners of the South Regional Final of the Guinness Play On The Day competition. The Bantry outfit turned in a brilliant performance earlier tonight at Cyprus Avenue in Cork, to book their place in the National Final, which will take place in Dublin.
The highly rated Aine Duffy, Dead School and Walking On Cars were tonight's other contenders – and they set the bar at an extremely impressive level. But in the end there can be only one winner. "It was a fantastic night," Liobhán O'Hora of Hot Press commented. "But The Calvinists are really special. It is shaping up to be an amazing face-off at the final in Whelan's."
The Calvinists join Protobaby (West/Mid West), The Hot Sprockets (East) and In Their Thousands (North) in what promises to be a pulsating contest.
The prize package for the overall winner will include a full three-day recording session with a senior producer in RTÉ studio and an in-studio session for broadcast by 2fm. The winning act will also have appeared on a special 'Flip Cover' of Hot Press on Thursday next – and will receive thousands of euros worth of top of the range musical instruments, from world renowned brands such as Fender Guitars, Tanglewood Guitars, Casio Keyboards and Premier Drums!
