The Mighty Stef to hold fundraiser
Aiming to raise money for their travel to South By Southwest in Texas, The Might Stef play a fundraising gig next week in Dublin
The Hot Press Newsdesk, 04 Mar 2005

While lion’s share of costs in representing the Irish clan have been catered for, The Mighty Stef still needs a euro or two to follow his appearance at the South By Southwest festival with a mini-tour of the US.
To that effect, Mr Stef and his band of men will be headlining the Radiator Club at Eamonn Doran’s in Dublin on Friday March 11 as part of his ‘raise a few bob campaign’. Also playing Andalusia and Kildare’s Band on An Island.

He’s a law unto himself is Stef, making the kind of records that nobody else could get away with. ‘Poisonous Love’ is an ode to a doomed love affair that turns into a punk sea shanty and sounds like The Men They Couldn’t Hang. It’s also great.

They don’t call him the Mighty Stef for nothing – brimming with showmanship and out-on-a-limb theatrics, this double A-side is the perfect marriage of knowing, indie melody and uplifting, crowd-pleasing pop. ‘Liars’ gives the Nolan Sisters a wry nod (as you do), while on first impression ‘Prayer For The Broken Hearted’ sounds as though Nick Cave found the happy pills (and cabaret).
