“The warm vibe of Other Voices but in the heart of Dublin” is one of the labels that’s been attached to The Stag’s Head Raw, the weekly acoustic session run by former Tower Records man James Elworthy in the titular Dublin 2 drinking emporium.
“In only 18 months we’ve hosted over 100 acts from all over the country and we’ve given a number of folk such as Verse Chorus Verse, Hidden Highways, Our Krypton Son, Slow Skies and I'm Your Vinyl their fist Dublin shows,” Elworthy tells Hot Press.
“We’ve also had established acts like The Riptide Movement, Bipolar Empire, The Gandhis, Gavin Glass, Jamie Lawson, Gavin James, Leslie Dowdall and Dermot Lambert.
“We’ve had high praise from acts and punters alike praising the sound and feel of what, I think, is Dublin’s best listening room. I’m delighted that this year we’ve been asked to become an official venue for Camden Crawl as we were a fringe venue last year and the room got so packed we had to turn people away.”
The other good news that Elworthy has to impart is that, “We’re also looking to kick off a second night, probably on Wednesdays, so if you want to book a gig drop a mail to stagsheadraw@gmail.com and we’ll get back to you.”
Next up at Stag’s Head Raw on February 10 are The Niall Toner Band, the Dublin bluegrass outfit who’ve been taking the States by storm.
