The Voice Of Ireland: Week 5 Round-Up

It was the penultimate week of the blind-auditions on The Voice Of Ireland last night...

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 04 Feb 2013

Week five of the blind auditions kicked-off with 18 year-old John Gaughan from Galway. John's acoustic rendition of Adele's 'Someone Like You' had Jamelia, Sharon and Kian all reaching for their buttons. Sharon was victorious following a bit of a stunt that involved those gold trousers, the floor, some serious pleading and a not too happy Jamelia.

Jamelia would get revenge on her fellow female judge with the final contestant of the night later on however. Sophie Rishcar, from Dublin sang 'Love On Top' with Bressie, Jamelia and Sharon all turning. Bressie appeared to be the hot favourite to land the 20 year-old. It wasn't to be though for the former Blizzards frontman, as Jamelia had the last laugh in what was an extremely competitive night.

Earlier on, Jamelia also added another classy female singer to her team, as she beat off competition from the other three judges to land French-born Alexandra Miller, who had Bressie turning during the first line of Adele's 'Skyfall'. Again Bressie appeared to be in the driving seat following an impressive pitch, but Jameliah, Sharon and Kian soon joined forces to dampen his chances, with Jamelia the eventual benefactor.

Despite being on the receiving end of some serious compliments from the judging panel, Jasmine Kavanagh, Beena Day and Caitlin Mogatedi James all came up just short on this weeks auditions.

Kian finally got off the mark this week with the addition of Dublin teacher Philip Kennedy to Team Egan. He was at it again soon after as Derek Power's performance of U2's 'Where The Streets Have No Name' earned him a place on Kian's squad.

Velvin Lamont from downtown LA moved to Ireland with his Irish wife last year. His slick rendition of 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered' had Bressie and Kian both hitting their buttons. Velvin chose Bressie following some emotional blackmail (Bressie told him it was his birthday, when it wasn't). Nice work Bressie!

Among the male contestants failing to turn any of the judges this week were Jack Patrick Healy, 18, from Kerry and Patrick Lacken, whose version of Il Divo's 'Hero' in Spanish and English did manage to get the biggest laugh of the night as Jameliah mistook his obvious Spanish for our native tongue.
