Today FM shows growth in latest radio ratings

In a tough 2012, the national station saw listenership rise 1%.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 01 Feb 2013

The latest JNLR figures, covering Jan-Dec 2012, were announced yesterday and the inside story is beginning to emerge.

One station that has cause to celebrate is Today FM. Despite the emigration rate – particularly amongst Today FM's key demographic of 20-44-year-olds – they were the sole national station to build on their overall numbers in 2012. It is a point that is reinforced by Chief Executive, Peter McPartlin.

“In a year when so many young adults have left the country," he said, "I think it’s a great testament to the appeal of Today FM that we were the only national station to show growth in 2012. Our approach to music, talk and talent is unique, positively regarded and much talked-about.”

With a weekly reach of 907,000, Today FM remains Ireland's second most listened-to station behind RTÉ Radio One.

The station performed particularly impressively in the 'Listened Yesterday' category, with a figure of 470,000.
