U2 decline Glanstonbury invitation

Glastonbury organisers have confirmed that U2 will not be headlining next year's festival

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 22 Oct 2004

Glastonbury head honcho Michael Eavis has confirmed that U2 have "reluctantly declined" an invitation to headline the festival in 2005.

"But," he adds, "their manager said they will do it at some point in the future. We're always talking to potential headliners from a very early date, because they're the most complicated act to sort out."

Whilst refusing to confirm or deny that they've now turned their attentions to Prince, Eavis admits, "We have sent someone out to the States this week to pursue an artist we want. Yes, they are American and yes, they are of superstar proportions. That's all I can say!"

The Somerset farmer was a little more forthcoming about the supports: "We're confident Razorlight, Franz Ferdinand, The Streets and Snow Patrol will play. They're brilliant and I expect to see them here."
