Ahead of their Irish tour, which kicks off tonight in Voodoo Belfast, the avant-garde rockers are back with the first single from their upcoming EP mkll (part 2).
Hiva Oa's new EP marks a return to form for duo Stephen Houlihan and Christine Tubridy, who are back in their native Ireland following a stint in Edinburgh and a period of inactivity.
The single is a moody, minimal post-rock track that sees Stephen Houlihan's vocals soaring high above dizzying electronica, funk-inspired basslines and sparse piercing percussion. All of this is reminiscent of Thom Yorke during his most serious solo phase. If this is an indication of where the newest batch of tracks is going to take Hiva Oa, we're excited to hear what they have in store.
