Since deleting his Twitter and Instagram accounts in May last year, the most glimpses social media users had seen of the controversial rapper had been in posts by his wife - queen of social media - Kim Kardashian West.

That was until last Monday, when Kanye burst back onto the social media platform with a bang. Following a "welcome back" tweet from Twitter CEO Jack, Kanye posted a slew of tweets varying from his favourite Yeezy and Saint Pablo tour merchandise, to the importance of higher consciousness.

So far, so good. At first it seemed like Kanye was back talking to the social media world to announce and plug his albums, and new additions to his clothing range. Most of 'Ye's tweets are completely harmless or inconsequential - "my friend said he texted all his friends this morning and said I love you" or "I want to see a tour with Nikki (sic) Minaj and Cardi B". Things quickly escalated though, with the most loved and most hated rapper offering thoughts and opinions no one wanted or expected to hear. Kanye first expressed his respect for right-wing speakers such as Candace Owens. Which was enough in itself. But then,Kanye told his 27.9 million Twitter followers that he loved President Donald Trump, and then doubled and tripled down on his claim.

You don't have to agree with trump but the mob can't make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don't agree with everything anyone does. That's what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.

It's safe to say the internet has not taken this well. Despite a well-intentioned intervention from wife Kim Kardashian West, people, including Snoop Dogg and Ice-T who criticised West's actions.

Yesterday, Kanye, donning his 'Make America Great Again' cap, teased new music for TMZ's Harvey Levin.
