Psy's global smash had remained in the top spot for over five years.
"I'll tell you all about it when I see you again" sang Charlie Puth on the Wiz Khalifa mega-hit, "See you again". The response from Youtubers seems that they'll see him again soon, and then again, and again, and again- because the video for the track just became the most-watched in the history of the website.
Not too long ago, it seemed impossible to imagine that anything would ever overtake the seemingly unstoppable force that was Psy's 'Gangnam Style'.
The South Korean had won the world over with the tongue in cheek insanity of his kitschy gimmicky song that had become so popular that it 'broke' Youtube's play counter after it exceeded the maximum number of views. The company was then forced to rewrite its code to accommodate the song.
Now the moving piano ballad written by Puth, Khalifa and Justin Franks has surpassed Psy with 2,896,510,876 views at the time of writing, compared to the measly 2,894,798,032 views enjoyed by the former champion.
Puth responded to the news on twitter:

For the record, I joined @YouTube in 2007 hoping to make a video that would reach 10,000 views. Just heard about See You Again...wow.

"See You Again" had been written for Fast and Furious 7 and was made as a tribute to the late Paul Walker. Walker starred in the film but died before it was released.
