As part of a new initiative to celebrate the musical legacy of Windmill Lane, the iconic Dublin location of the Windmill Quarter is playing host to a series of free, intimate concerts, curated by Hot Press.
Gavin James is set to play a special intimate, once-off Dublin show for Hot Press, as part of the Windmill Live series. The gig will take place in the Town Hall, One Windmill Lane, in the Windmill Quarter, on Thursday, 30 May.
Windmill Lane has a fascinating place in Irish musical history.
The original Windmill Lane Studios was launched in 1978 and is widely regarded as central to the development of an internationally successful music culture in Ireland. The place where U2’s crucial first three albums – Boy, October and War – were recorded in full, it became synonymous with top Irish artists. It was also the recording location for albums by a string of international best-selling artists, including Clannad, Van Morrison, The Waterboys, Def Leppard and Kate Bush, among many more.
Later, Windmill Lane Studios moved to Ringsend Road, where it still attracts major international and Irish recording artists, incuding the likes of Kylie Minogue and Ed Sheeran.
Having launched at the end of February with Hothouse Flowers – who were joined onstage by Moya Brennan of Clannad for what was a very special collaboration – along with rising star Erica Cody, this is the second in the Windmill Live series, curated by Hot Press. One of Ireland's major breakthrough stars of recent years, Gavin James will perform this special free show, with an early evening kick-off, on Thursday, May 30.
Since releasing his platinum-certified debut album, Bitter Pill, four years ago, Gavin James has enjoyed major success both at home and internationally. His acclaimed sophomore album, Only Ticket Home, was described by Hot Press as "a powerful statement of intent from a world star-in-the-making." And so it has proven. In January, Gavin received a special award from the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) to celebrate amassing an incredible one billion streams. For Gavin James, it seems, the only way is up!
Following three superb sold-out dates at the legendary Olympia Theatre in April this year, the ace Irish singer-songwriter recently announced his first headline 3Arena show, which is set for February 29, 2020. It promises to be one of the biggest shows – and the hottest tickets – of the year at the iconic Dublin venue.
