European collaboration Criss Cross Europe are slated to bring their improvised jazz skillset to the historic Freemason's Hall on December 9th, led by renowned Seattle-born, Berlin-based drummer Jim Black.
The collaborative band of Europe’s finest burgeoning jazz stars (including acclaimed Irish guitarist, Chris Guilfoyle) are slated create a unique night of music, juxtaposing the ancient and modern with fresh contemporary European jazz on December 9th, alongside mentor Jim Black.
International initiative Criss Cross, working with Improvised Music Company, chose the veteran, charismatic dummer to oversee the pan-European team of six virtuosos. Seeking to represent how jazz is evolving in the modern landscape, Criss Cross tapped the Berklee School of Music graduate.
Having lived in Berlin since 2016, Jim Black has played alongside the likes of renowned avant-garde saxophonist and record label owner Tim Berne and trumpeter/composer Dave Douglas in his time. Earning his education in Boston, Jim later formed his own band AlasNoAxis with Hilmar Jensson, Chris Speed and Skúli Sverrisson. Winter & Winter has released several of the outfit's post-rock-infused jazz albums. He is also one-third of the group BBC with alto saxophonist Berne and Nels Cline of Wilco. A warm presence, his 25 years of performing have helped to bring jazz into the 21st century.
Hot Press are now giving away four tickets to the hugely exciting night of improvised jazz music at the historic backdrop of Freemason's Hall, Dublin. Not only this, the lucky winner will also experience a meet and greet with Black himself between 7:30pm and 8pm on the night of December 9th.
