The World Premier of ‘Citizens of Boomtown’ will be shown as part of Dublin’s Film Festival in Cineworld, Parnell Street on Tuesday March 3rd!
Formed in 1975 in Dublin The Boomtown Rats became part of the burgeoning punk scene. In the UK they toured with the Ramones and Talking Heads, rocking and mocking the status quo alongside the Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Jam and The Stranglers. They became one of the biggest bands of the late 70s/80s with a string of top ten hits and platinum albums. Making history as the first Irish band to have a UK no 1 hit with ‘Rat Trap’.
The upcoming Boomtown Rats doc ‘Citizens of Boomtown’ is happening on Tuesday March 3rd in Cineworld as part of the Dublin Film Fest.
With guests including Bono, Sinead O’Connor, Dave Stewart, Diarmaid Ferriter, Joseph O’Connor, Jools Holland, David Fricke, Roy Foster and Sting, The documentary explores the musical and social legacy of Ireland’s first rock superstars who changed their own lives, helped to change Ireland and with Live Aid changed the world. In this entertaining, dramatic and absorbing film, director Billy McGrath digs deep into the band’s history, its remarkable songbook and highlights the key moments of its huge success and subsequent fall in 1985.
Why did this ‘gang’ of friends from Dún Laoghaire get together? And then break- up? What happened to them all afterwards? And how come the band regrouped in 2013?
