Following the release of his lauded new memoir, Adventures In Wonderland, this month, Paul Charles is gearing up for a special literary event – taking the form of a public 'trial' – tomorrow, May 26, at the International Literature Festival Dublin. To celebrate, we're giving you the chance to win tickets!
Kicking off in Merrion Square at 8pm – and with special guests Brian Kennedy and Saibh Skelly also taking part – this will be no ordinary literary festival appearance. “By Order of The Relevant Authorities”, the author is set to stand trial, before The People's Court, on charges arising from his work as an agent, manager, promoter, songwriter and rock ’n’ roll agitator, since he first became a music “addict" when he heard The Beatles ‘Please Please Me’ on the radio in his family kitchen in the 1960s.
Paul Charles was born and reared in Magherafelt, in Co. Derry and began his career in “music” managing a band called Blues By Five.
He went on to become one of the leading music agents on the planet. Over the past 40 years, he has worked with some of the biggest names in music, at different times managing the careers of Van Morrison, Ray Davies of The Kinks, Gerry Rafferty, The Waterboys and Dexys Midnight Runners, and launching Tanita Tikaram – the teenage star whose debut album sold almost 5 million copies – into the world.
The author of Adventures In Wonderland has been charged with the pernicious crime of spreading the notorious, so-called Gospel of Rock ’n’ Roll Music in Ireland and across the world, thereby inducing unsuspecting, innocent citizens to participate in loud singing, lewd dancing and innumerable other acts of depraved decadence.
