Hot Press are delighted to be giving away two tickets to see Breaking Out on opening night of the Michael McCormack-directed, award-winning documentary (November 19th). On top of the lucky winner's visit to the Lighthouse cinema in Smithfield, the prize recipient will be given tickets to Glen Hansard & Interference at the Sugar Club on Friday night (November 12th).

The moving documentary lasers in on the incredible life of the late Fergus O'Farrell, and nabbed the George Morrison Feature Documentary gong at the 2021 Irish Film & Television Academy Awards. Breaking Out, distributed by Element Pictures, also earned Best Irish Documentary at the Galway Film Fleadh 2019.

The film tells the remarkable story of the Cork born singer-songwriter. The charismatic voice of Interference, Fergus O'Farrell was part of one of the most compelling and influential bands to emerge from the Irish music scene in the 1990s. He was best known for his timeless song 'GOLD', which featured in the soundtrack to ONCE, the Oscar winning film and multi-Tony-award-winning musical.

Despite being diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at a young age, through it all, Fergus had to keep singing. His unique talent and love for life inspired a generation of songwriters even as his own was slipping away. Close friend Glen Hansard was one of those songwriters and never forgot that voice. In one of the many poignant moments in Breaking Out, he performs a duet alongside the resilient Fergus.

This intimate journey into the heart and soul of the late Fergus O’Farrell was filmed over ten years by director Michael McCormack.
