This fabulous steampunk epic set in an unspecified post-apocalyptic future sees ‘stitchpunk’ puppets – the last evidence of human life - take on rampant killing machines. Director Shane Acker’s gorgeous basement project has found plenty of celebrity benefactors – Tim Burton and Timor Bekmembetov are headlining producers, Elijah Wood, Jennifer Connelly, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer, John C. Reilly, and Crispin Glover provide the perfectly pitched vocals. The epic adventure begins when a new doll, 9 (voiced appropriately by LOTR’s Elijah Wood), comes to life and finds others of his kind on the devastated landscape. He soon finds himself at odds with 1 (Christopher Plummer), the authoritarian leader of the survivors. 9 wants to cross the wasteland to challenge the Beast and rescue 2, but 1 insists the mission is far too dangerous. Suddenly, 9 and his new friends – including the kindly, cowardly 5 (John C. Reilly) and the feisty 7 (Jennifer Connelly) -- must choose a road less travelled.
