The movie has touched a subject that could be used for inspiration in the years to come. The afterlife has always been one of wonder and mystery.
The discovery shows us that not all good ideas are gone from this world. It shows us an open field full of potential. The priorities in the story, however, shifted in the wrong way.
Science has proven the afterlife exists. Instead of living a fulfilling life on earth, people commit suicide on a massive scale, leaving their problems behind and hoping to gain access to the afterlife.
First, there is Isla, played by Rooney Mara. Like many others, she has set out to kill herself. Then there is Will, played by Jason Segel. He wants to connect with his disgraced father who happened to be the person who scientifically proved an afterlife exists. The characters meet and in a later stage they fall in love. And that’s where the story goes sour. A love story has once again deafened an 'original' concept.

There are some movies who balance out these topics very well. For instance, The Happening is a movie with a good concept and an excellent output on screen. Romance is present but only softly noticeable.
The discovery should have been a refreshing breeze through a dusty old library. Unfortunately, old books can't seem to stand fresh air.
