The 2007 film gets a sequel.
Ever since the Pirates of the Caribbean movies became successful, Disney sequels have been viable theatrical releases, rather than the direct-to-video fare we saw bombs like Pocahontas 2 or Mulan 2. Despite that, the popular Enchanted has yet to receive a sequel until now. Well, now it's happening, and it's received a rather appropriate title.
Adam Shankman will direct. His pedigree includes work on Glee, Hairspray, and Rock of Ages, so we think this movie is his ballpark. The new movie will take place ten years after the original, with Amy Adams’ character, Giselle, questioning her happily ever after, with repercussions in our world and the animated one.
The first Enchanted is notable not just for transplanting Disney princess archetypical characters to the real world, but subverting and deconstructing the clichés and formulas associated with the genre. As it turns out, happily ever after really is a fairy tail, and relationships take work and don’t always work out.
