As of 2021/2022 there are 18,097 students with disabilities registered for support services in higher education in Ireland, representing almost 6.9% of the total student population.
AHEAD, an independent non-profit organisation working to create inclusive environments in education for people with disabilities, are presenting the Power of Disability Conference.
The online event, organised in tandem with the Union of Students in Ireland, takes place on February 7 & 8.
Over two days, discussions, presentations and feedback sessions will encourage students with disabilities to be leaders on their own campuses and will build practical skills on self-advocacy and constructive advocacy.
The first day will focus on students who work closely with AHEAD, documenting their day-to-day lived experiences in higher education institutions across Ireland. Speaking at the event will be the Students with Disabilities Advisory Group and the NDPAC.

Day 2 focuses on education advocacy and rights , both in Ireland and the EU, with sessions instructing disabled students on how they can better advocate for themselves and others. There will also be discussions on how to get involved in student politics within HEI/FET.
Registration to attend is free but limited, so those wishing to attend must book a spot online via this link.
