Shoegaze of our lives...
The genre-bending psychedelic dreamscape of Goat Girl’s On All Fours feels ever so slightly detached from reality. In a good way, that is, as it artfully navigates the line between haunting dissonance and an immersive utopia. Futuristic synths simultaneously blend and contrast with jazzy guitar riffs, underpinned by off-kilter drums.
Goat Girl’s artful lyrics tackle the injustices of the world, searching for sense amid chaos. There’s clear inspiration from their indie-psych contemporaries, but the record feels distinctly futuristic, thanks to their imaginative use of sci-fi synths.
Indeed, the album is a masterful blend of post-punk and shoegaze, topped off with spellbinding vocals. It’s a major creative leap for the South London quarter, and a hugely exciting listen from start to finish.
