Alicia Vikander is currently promoting her role as Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider movie, but though her character may be an independent bad-ass, Vikander reveals how she found strength through the support of other women.

Speaking to Vogue, Vikander shared a story of how actress Julianne Moore stood up for her on the set of the 2014 sci-fi Seventh Son.

An unnamed man in a position of power on-set reportedly made a cruel and loud joke about Vikander on the film set during production in 2012.

"I was really embarrassed, and I would have just laughed it off," Vikander said. "But Julianne turned to him and said: 'If you ever do that again, I'm walking out of here and I'm not coming back.'"

"She [Moore] was just like, 'Don't you f**king say that again,'" Vikander recalled. "It showed me that she had the power. And that meant so much to me."

And Vikander is paying that solidarity forward, as she recently teamed up with fellow actresses including Michelle Williams, Reese Witherspoon and Natalie Portman to support the Time's Up movement, which aims to promote equality in the workplace and raise money to fund the legal expenses of victims wishing to pursue cases of sexual assault and harassment.

"It was such a community that came together," she said. "I got on the phone with Natalie, whom I'd never met, and with Reese. Suddenly I felt like I made a lot of new friends."

Tomb Raider will be in cinemas from July 6.
