It is happening! And the all female line-up of crooks is a stellar one.
Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Elizabeth Banks and Mindy Kaling have all pitched their names to the project.
The casting department have done pretty impressive work gathering that award-lauded line-up, no doubt praying that when the project does come to fruition that it won't generate the hate that the all-female Ghostbusters has received. Bullock is set to play Danny Ocean's counterpart (originally helmed by George Clooney) whilst Blanchett will be the faithful Rusty sidekick. What roles the other confirmed three will be playing remains sketchy but there will be plenty of heisting for all involved. Jennifer Lawrence was also in talks to star but with so many upcoming projects lined up Lawrence barely has enough time to powder her nose, nevermind to execute a flawless robbery.
The female reboot is receiving full support from the creators of the 2001 Ocean's 11 and has apparently been in development for quite some time. The 2001 trilogy director Steven Soderbergh was working intenslely with Ocean's producer Jerry Weintraub before Weintraub passed away in 2014. Development is back on full-steam now though with a script from Olivia Milch ready to go. With Soderbergh taking over as producer, Hunger Games' Gary Ross will occupy the director's chair. Reports are suggesting that the film will be entitled Ocean's Ocho indicating that it's a line-up of 8 as opposed to the original 11. As well as that, it's been deemed as a spin-off as opposed to a reboot.
If there are in fact 8 female crooks altogether, then there's another 3 spots up for the taking so it'll be interesting to see how this one pans out. Shooting is due to kick off in early 2017 with no release date in sight just yet.
