Other standout nominees include Sarah Jessica Parker, David Tennant, Sarah Snook and a one-woman stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray
The nominations for the Olivier Awards, one of the most prestigious honours in theatre, were announced today. Notably, Andrew Scott received a Best Actor nod for his role in Simon Stephens’ Vanya, an adaptation of Anton Chekov's Uncle Vanya.
In Vanya, Scott - who also serves as production co-creator - brings multiple characters to life in the radical new interpretation, taking on every part in the bleakly hilarious play.
Other prominent nominees include Doctor Who-alum David Tennant for his role in Macbeth, Sex and the City's Sarah Jessica Parker for Plaza Suite, Joseph Fiennes for Dear England and Oscar-nominated Sophie Okonedo.
A groundbreaking adaptation of Oscar Wilde's classic novel The Picture of Dorian Gray garnered two nominations, one for costume design and a Best Actress nod for Sarah Snook who, like Scott, daringly took on every role.
