Breathe has been selected as the opening film of this year’s BFI London Film Festival, which will take place October 4-15.

Starring Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy, Breathe is based on the true story of Robin Cavendish, who was diagnosed with polio while in Kenya. Told by doctors that he had only months to live, Cavendish not only survived but went on to become a powerful advocate for the rights of people with disabilities. Foy, who currently stars in The Crown, plays Cavendish’s wife Diana, who helped him come to terms with his illness. Downtown Abbey star Hugh Bonneville appears as scientist Teddy Hall, who aided Cavendish in developing a revolutionary wheelchair.

The London screening will be the film’s European premiere.
