Our verdict on all that is new in gadgetry...
App Attack
A new app on the Nokia Windows Marketplace turns your humble smartphone into a Hollywood production studio. Well, a Finglas production studio. VYCLONE collates different footage of the same event – such as a music concert or sports event – to create a multi-angled film. The app lets you upload the remixed content to share online with pals.
Before taking the dreaded flight to Australia, check out the JOBLENS app for Nokia Lumia phones. The app collates info on LinkedIn, Indeed, Windows Live, Twitter and Facebook, providing information on positions and job requirements. Users can lodge CV’s through the app, review applications, and track application progress.
Jay-Z has 99 problems and an app is one. JAY Z MAGNA CARTA, for Samsung phones, let users download his new album a few days before the official release. However, the app appeared to have less regard for privacy than American’s National Security Agency – it demanded personal information such as social media logins, storage space, and GPS location.

The Ferrari of cameras
Pro photographers and film makers will be remortgaging their houses after Canon launched the new magic box in their EOS range. After movies and episodes of TV series, including 24, were shot on Canon’s previous digital SLR’s, the EOS 70D takes photography and film making to another level. The camera features a 20.2 MP APS-C CMOS sensor and has Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology, which delivers smooth and accurate autofocus (AF) when shooting full HD movies. The 70D captures full resolution images at up to 7 frames per second, with up to 65 JPEG or 16 RAW images in a single burst. The price? Brace yourself. EOS 70D begins at €1399.99, going up to €1849.99 for a 18-135mm lens.
Roaming was built in a day
Vodafone users can roam like Saharan nomads with a new offer that lets you gorge on 100MB of data in Europe for €3.99 per day. Vodafone Ireland’s roaming offer costs €4.99 (excl. VAT) per day for business customers, which includes the USA and Canada. You’re only charged the daily fee on the days when you use their phone roaming, and you can also use their international minutes or add ons. “Now while roaming in Europe, you don’t have to worry about charges per minute on voice calls, or that your smartphone is running up data bills,” said Vodafone Ireland’s Marcel de Groot. Vodafone customers can get the package Roaming via text (Red to 50020), online at Vodafone.ie, or through retail outlets.
Specs savers
The jury is still out on Google Glass, a mind-blowing piece of technology that you wear on your face. Can Google really make glasses cool? Seriously? At least these Star Trek specs have a few jazzy features in store. The latest edition for the still-in-development tech is a web browser. Users navigate the browser using head movements, consequently adopting the nervous mannerisms of serial killer Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs. Developers have also created a lock screen for the glasses, and an app store reportedly called Boutique. Google Glass will have multimedia functionality, including a music and video player.
