Northern Irish rock trio Ash have announced a global transmission gig to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their hugely successful debut album 1977.

Taking place on June 5th, 2021 at 8pm BST; Tim Wheeler, Mark Hamilton, and Rick McMurray will play the staple rock project from start to finish in the online concert.

Emerging from Northern Ireland in the late '80s, Ash’s unique sound earned them their place in the '90s alternative rock movement. By May 1996, the Downpatrick three-piece were set to release their first full-length studio album 1977 - their most popular record to that date.

The trifecta was still at school when they began recording their debut album with Oasis producer Owen Morris. They’d already notched up a succession of hit singles like ‘Kung Fu’ and ‘Girl From Mars’, sawn-off punk-pop nuggets that suggested The Undertones, the Shangri-La’s and Nirvana in equal measure. The classic ‘Goldfinger’ perfectly encapsulated nowheresville restlessness, while ‘Oh Yeah’ was a hymn to the intoxication of gap year romance. It wasn’t a perfect record but a serious debut - one which spawned no less than four hit singles.

1977 then entered the UK charts at #1 in its first week, surprisingly knocking Alanis Morisette’s long-time chart-topper Jagged Little Pill off its perch.
