Aslan have rescheduled their upcoming Kilkenny show after Christy Dignam was advised against performing on medical grounds.

The legendary Irish rock band were due to perform a sold-out show at the Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre this Saturday, July 23rd as part of their "40 Years of Aslan" tour.

The gig has since been rescheduled to August 5th.

Christy Dignam has been battling health issues for nine years since being diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare blood disorder cancer, in March 2013.

Martina Brennan, a venue spokesperson, said that the 'Crazy World' singer "wouldn't be cancelling unless he really had to."

Speaking to KCLR FM, Brennan added that they were looking forward to welcoming the band to Kilkenny next month.

“We’re wishing him a very speedy recovery as well I might add because he loves performing."

Any fans who cannot attend the new August date are asked to contact Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre.

In 2020, after losing his father to Covid-19 and his beloved dog Jack, Dignam created his first solo album. The Man Who Stayed Alive. The Finglas native's "legacy piece" went on to land the No. 7 spot on the Official Irish Album Charts.

The 62-year-old said recently that he has not undergone chemotherapy in 10 months, adding that he “appreciates every day now".

“I just appreciate the fact that I’m getting my foot to the floor in the morning,” the singer said.

Aslan are gearing up to play Dublin’s 3Arena on September 17th to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
