North Dublin is set to host the inaugural Ballybough and North Strand Festival of History, taking place from September 27 – October 13.
Promising to be a “fascinating exploration of the area’s rich and varied history”, all events completely free of charge.
Sponsored by the North East Inner City (NEIC) division of Dublin City Council, the festival offers locals and visitors the opportunity to look into the stories that have shaped communities, like the North Strand Bombings, the Battle of Clontarf, the literary legacy of Bram Stoker and Grace Kelly’s visit.

Highlight’s include author Terry Fagan’s talk on life in the tenements, local historian Sean Deegan’s exhibition of documents, objects, and stories that celebrate the area’s sports stars and literary figures and the chance to discovery history of DWD Whiskey and The Jones’s Road Distillery, followed by a whiskey tasting session with Derek King of Dublin Whiskey.
‘Where Rock and Religion Rolled’, which has already sold out, explores the music history of The SFX Hall on Gardiner St and features Music Merchandiser David Bell and Paul Page of Whipping Boy, with the discussion moderated by historian Donal Fallon,
