Plastic bags at the ready please – this fortnight, Limerick scamps The Rubberbandits make their way to Louth…
Lock up your… everything! Limerick hip-hop duo Rubberbandits head out on the road this fortnight, and they’ve got Louth set firmly in their sights.
The pair, who shot to fame with the unforgettable ‘Horse Outside’ in 2010, proved they were no one-trick pony (sorry) with the release of the excellent Serious About Men album the following year. Spawning tracks like ‘I Wanna Fight Your Father’ and the haunting ‘Song For Willie O’Dea’, the boys caught the attention of the good folks at Channel 4, who commissioned them to write and perform a full-length TV show. If ‘Fight Me At Mass’ (‘Fight me at mass/ I won’t take it outside/ I wanna kick you in the face/ With Christ by my side’) is anything to go by – check it out on channel4.com – the show should be a goodie. Expect similar madness when the dynamic duo play the Spirit Store in Louth on June 28. See spiritstore.ie
Also this fortnight, UK comedy Noises Off makes its way to Belfast’s Grand Opera House. Written by Michael Frayn, the multi-award-winning West End hit is a farcical ‘play within a play’, and follows the antics of a touring theatre company as they rehearse and perform their ill-fated play. This production is directed by Lindsay Posner and stars Neil Pearson, Maureen Beattie and David Bark-Jones. See goh.co.uk/noises-off
Back in the capital, Andrew Maxwell will do his thing in the Pavilion Theatre (June 21), before heading to Kildare’s Riverbank Arts Centre the following night (22). The Dubliner made a series of Conspiracy Road Trip documentaries recently for the BBC, one of which recently found him face-down on the ground surrounded by US soldiers outside Area 51. Yikes…
