With the theatrical release of Martin Scorsese's The Irishman just one week away, Robbie Robertson, a former member of The Band, has shared a new song set to feature on the soundtrack.

Set to debut on Netflix on November 27 after a limited cinema run, The Irishman stars cinema legends Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Al Pacino – and spans decades to tell the true story of alleged hitman Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran.

“This is probably the tenth film I’ve worked on with Marty, and every time we do it, it’s a whole new experience,” Robertson told Rolling Stone. “The music score for The Irishman was an unusual feat. We were trying to discover a sound, a mood, a feel, that could work, over the many decades that this story takes place. Marty was drawn to a theme I wrote that brought a unique, timeless quality to this movie.”

Robertson's notable work with Scorsese includes Raging Bull and The Color of Money. The legendary director was also involved in the recent documentary Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band.

While Robertson wrote an entire score for the upcoming crime epic, 'Theme For The Irishman' is the only song that features on the film's soundtrack – alongside tracks from Fats Domino, Glenn Miller & His Orchestra and a selection of classic post-war pop tunes.
