As 2019 comes to a close, the annual Google Year in Search Results provide a telling snapshot of what caught the interest of the nation over the last 12 months.

Billie Eilish tops the list for music-related searches in Ireland, following a remarkable year that saw the 17-year-old megastar release her acclaimed studio album, When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, which came in at No.2 in the Hot Press Albums of the Year.  In his review for Hot Press, Ed Power described the album as "shoot-to-chill pop with the safety catch off – a tour de force back lit with a blue streak of ferocity. At its best, it's astonishing."

Eilish also performed one of the standout sets of Electric Picnic in 2019 – catching up with Hot Press's Stuart Clark backstage beforehand.

Coming in No.2 on the list of the highest trending musicians is Azealia Banks – which may come as a surprise, considering that the only music she released was a widely panned mixtape, Yung Rapunxzel Pt. II. However, 2019 was a momentous year for Banks on these shores. Ahead of her headline show at The Academy in January, the rapper posted a lengthy tirade against Aer Lingus staff and Irish women on Instagram.

Unsurprisingly, Lewis Capaldi also appears in the Top.3 most popular music-related Google searches. With the release of Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent in May, the Scottish singer enjoyed a hugely successful year on the Irish charts – claiming the biggest song of 2019 with 'Someone You Loved'.

The only Irish artist to appear in the list of the Top.10 highest trending musicians is Dermot Kennedy, who comes in at No.7. The Dublin singer-songwriter, who plays two sold-out shows at the 3Arena, Dublin later this month, released his acclaimed debut, Without Fear, in October – topping charts at home and in the UK.
