Were-sheep transformations, Dr. Moreau cackling and bloodthirsty herbivores. What’s not to like?
Hapless, ovinophobic Henry (Meister) returns to the family farm unaware that his crazy older brother’s genetic experiments have given rise to a flock of flesh-eating zombie killer-sheep. Murderous hilarity ensues.
The New Zealand setting and the impressively surreal WETA special effects are not the only links to Peter Jackson here. Black Sheep is clearly drawn from Bad Taste and Brain Dead and those cleverly silly films from back before the Lord Of The Rings’ director became overlord of the movie universe. Over a taut 87 minutes – just the right length to sustain the gag – you can thrill to the spectacle of were-sheep transformations, Dr. Moreau cackling and bloodthirsty herbivores. What’s not to like?
