What with the new film A Complete Unknown, Dylan’s own sell-out tours, and another film with a narrative twined around Dylan songs, Girl From The North Country, Bob Dylan seems to be everywhere.
Now, the news of a special tribute show has arrived. Bree-based performer Paul Kirwan will present Bringing Dylan Home during its premiere in St. Michael’s Theatre in New Ross, Co. Wexford on Friday, March 28.
Kirwan is known for his tributes to singers of the calibre of Johnny Cash and Neil Young. On his latest project, he commented: “Dylan’s latest album has a song called ‘I Contain Multitudes’ and it’s as self-revelatory as we’re likely to get from the permanently shape-shifting Dylan. I felt inspired to explore one of those multitudes and that’s what my show is all about, recreating that character and bringing him to the New Ross stage”.
Kirwan had access to a sneak preview of the new film A Complete Unknown, and while he appreciated Chalamet’s portrayal of Dylan, he highlights that Bringing Dylan Home shows a different Dylan. “Chalamet does a brilliant job, but my focus is on tapping into the essence of a later Dylan from around the time of the Rolling Thunder Revue when Dylan performed like a man on fire.”

Classics from Kirwan’s New Ross show will include ‘Mr Tambourine Man’, ‘Like A Rolling Stone’, as well as ‘It’s Alright Ma’, and ‘Tangled Up In Blue’.
