Speculation had been rife earlier this year that Dobson would leave his post. RTÉ have now confirmed that he will move to be a permanent presenter on Morning Ireland at the end of October.

Dobson will continue to be a key presenter for RTÉ's television coverage of special state events, including the forthcoming Budget 2018.

The much love presenter had been at the helm of the Six One newsbeat for over 21 years and will be sadly missed.
