We may not be getting a ‘Call Me By Your Name’ sequel after all…due to Timothée Chalamet’s face
With the success of his new film ‘Beautiful Boy’, Chalamet has landed on the cover of half a dozen notable magazine covers, from GQ to i-D to V-Man. But his mug is also the reason that a sequel to Call Me By Your Name might never see the light of day.
If you’re not so familiar with updates on the potential sequel, here’s a revise. Both the film’s lead actors (Chalamet and Armie Hammer) are in. So too is the film’s director (Luca Guadagino). However, screenwriter (James Ivory) and author of the novel (André Aciman) are not so keen which has cast major doubt over a sequel ever being filmed.
Speaking to The Film Stage, 90-year-old Ivory said: “I don’t and I wouldn’t want to be involved. I can’t imagine having to make Timothée Chalamet look 45. I mean, that would be horrendous and so fake looking if that’s what they are going to do.”
Even more heart-breaking. Ivory adds that Aciman is against the idea: “André just laughed at the idea to me. He said it was not a good idea. They can’t do a sequel, I think, without him being on board. It’s his characters and his story. But that seems to have died down a bit. I haven’t heard much about it lately.”
Guadagino has revealed in the past he wishes to wait several years before filming a sequel so the actors can age into where the characters would be when the follow-up takes place.

In October, Chalamet spoke to Variety, he said: “I don’t see any world where it doesn’t happen, I think André is comfortable with a sequel being made. I know Luca really wants it. And I know Armie and I are 1000% in.”
