A new documentary tells the story of Slint, the greatest band you've probably never heard.
James Murphy, Steve Albini, David Yow, Ian MacKaye and Matt Sweeney are among the alt. rock/dance royalty paying tribute on Breadcrumb Trail to Slint, the Louisville, Kentucky math rockers who’ve intermittently been making complete cults of themselves since 1986.
Despite having all of the aforementioned plus Stephen Malkmus and Gary Lightbody
in their fan club, they’ve only managed to release two studio albums, which have sold a measly 75,000 copies between them.
Assembled by Lance Bangs – no relation – who’s previously focused his camera on the likes of Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Green Day and Kanye, it’s a fascinating feature- length account of a band who in a parallel universe are mandatory college dorm listening and getting those “Hey guys, want to hang out?” calls from Brooooce ’n’ Bowie instead of Arcade Fire.
The trailer is on YouTube and a treasure trove of its director’s other work available at lancebangs.com. Be warned; you’ll need weeks rather than days to work your way through it.

The brilliant Putinised Village People image tweeted last week by Madonna – and thusly now a global phenomenon – is the handiwork of Jim’ll Paint It, a British artist who lets visitors to facebook. com/JimllPaintIt decide what he’s going to create next. The man who suggested Mr. Blobby getting his police mugshot taken while a stocking ’n’ suspender-clad Noel Edmonds has his particulars taken down – oooh, matron! – by an officer who resembles Captain Jack Sparrow is obviously a very sick individual, but darn, it’s eye- catching!
