The online archives of an obscure Netherlands TV show are spilling over with pop curios from down the decades...
Caught In The Net’s work rate has been somewhat impaired by its discovery of youtube.com/user/webportalavro which features a whopping 1,521 archive performances from The Netherland’s Top Pop show. It’s a veritable HD treasure trove with Blondie’s super sexy run through of ‘Denis’ and The Walker Brothers’ effortlessly cool ‘No Regrets’ our current joint favourites.
There’s some quality Eurotrash too courtesy of the likes of Flirts, Dolly Dots, Gitti Und Erika, Nena, David Bowie’s old pal Amanda Lear and Luv, three Amsterdam fillies who make Atomic Kitten look positively avant garde in comparison.
Some of the miming is off the dodgyometer but that’s all part of the charm!
Sticking with music and Caught In The Net is very much liking Tanya’s Gold Blend, a new web series fronted by Mullingar musician Tanya O’Callaghan who’s played with everyone from Sharon Corr and Westlife to Tool’s Maynard James Keenan and Joshua Eustis of NIN fame. With Ryan Sheridan, The Riptide Movement, Bressie and Brian Kennedy all dropping by her gaff recently for a jam, tanyasgoldblend.com is a worthy addition to our ‘must-watch’ list.
vimeo.com/60716127 affords a first glimpse of Recipes That Rock, a new Australian food programme, which premieres Down Under this month and has Blur’s cheese-loving Alex James and tattooed chef Matt Stone as its co-presenters. Warning: watching the trailer will result in you wanting to eat your body weight in crayfish ‘n’ ribs.
Which just leaves time for quick visits to facebook.com/ValeriaLukyanova (the human Barbie doll); sicktionary.usvsth3m.com (“a collaborative thesaurus for euphemisms, poophemisms & euphejisms”); retrocomicsgroup.co.uk/its-hofficial (The Hoff goes even more superhero) and screencrush.com/marvel-agents-of-shield-photos (sneak preview of the Marvel TV show).
