The mighty Woodkid leads this fortnight’s parade of online weird’n’wonderful-ness...
Russian punk bands getting their Reservoir Dogs on is so last fortnight! The viral-iest things – 19.9 million hits and rising – on the ‘net this week are the twin ‘Iron’ and ‘Run Boy Run’ videos Woodkid has come up with in support of his debut album, The Golden Age.
Heavily tattooed homoerotic skinheads, Mongol warriors on horseback, snarling huskies, owl-handling Jedward lookalikes, Blade Runner-style futuristic landscapes… all feature in the clips, which are as eye-catching as you’d expect from somebody who as well as being an ace singer-songwriter has also directed such landmark promos as Drake’s ‘Take Care’, Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dreams’ and Lana Del Rey’s ‘Born To Die’.
Don’t be surprised if the French Artist Also Known as Yoann Lemoine’s next stop is Hollywood. You’ll find both, natch, on YouTube.
As April 20’s Record Store Day hurtles inexorably towards us, we thought you might like to cop an eyeful of the excellent doc residing at facebook.com/RSDtheDocumentary, which was shot in Seattle by Jason Wilder Evans and features twin rock ‘n’ roll legends Duff McKagan and Peter Buck.
The genius that is Arthur Mathews strikes again with the wonderful Amish Sex Pistols Vs. Amish Bill Grundy sketch he conceived for Kevin Eldon’s BBC2 It’s Kevin series.
Also featuring the comedic talents of Peter Serafinowicz, Bridget Christie and Matt Berry, the former Hot Press Art Director and Crystal Palace fan stuck the clip up on YouTube as an April Fools’ gift to us all. To get the full benefit, watch the original car crash Grundy interview from 1976 first.
Which just leaves time for quick visits to slate.me/XbcQLt (dogging Japanese-style); bulaquo.com (Status Quo’s James Bond romp looks like it might be a bit of a giggle) and bbcsporf.lockerdome.com/articles/107009758 (the strangest free-kick of all time).
