Christy Dignam will release ‘High’ this Friday (August 27).
Christy Dignam has announced that ‘High,’ the lead single from his debut solo album, will drop this Friday (August 27).
The Aslan frontman is slated to release his album The Man Who Stayed Alive, on October 15th. The album was conceived during the Covid-19 pandemic when Dignam reached out to frequent Aslan collaborator Don Mescall.
Mescall, who has helped Dignam curate the legacy solo album, worked with the band on their hits ‘Too Late For Hallelujah’ and ‘Catch Your Fall.’ Mescall drew inspiration from “Christy’s long established and often turbulent career that Don drew inspiration from for creation of these songs,” as stated in a press release.
The iconic Irish rockstar, Mescall and the former managing director of EMI Ireland, Will Kavanagh worked together to put together “a collection of songs that personally expressed where Christy felt he was in his life.”
“I can't tell you how much making my solo album has lifted my spirits,” said Dignam.
Dignam appeared on Mescall's 2018 album Lighthouse Keeper. In his review of Lighthouse Keeper, Hot Press' Jackie Hayden said "As Lighthouse Keeper confirms in no uncertain terms, Don Mescall straddles the divide between pop and country music with impressive finesse. There could be lots of hits therein."

Dignam's collaborators spoke about the joy of helping the singer craft the record. “It's been such a joy to work on this record with one of the most iconic singers this Country has ever produced,” said Mescall.
“Working with Christy and Don again is a labour of love, and we have been blessed to have distribution and guidance from Annette and the great team at Sony,” added Kavanagh.
Dignam recorded vocal takes between chemotherapy sessions for a terminal form of cancer, cutting many of the vocals in his kitchen in his Dublin home. The majority of the album was written and recorded at Mescall’s Quivvy Church Studio in Cavan.
Aslan were recently announced as one of the acts for the one-day festival, 'The Stables - Live At The Showgrounds.' The outfit will be joined by Lisa Canny, Flynn and Scally for the event this Saturday (August 28) in Westmeath. Tickets for the festival are still available.
