It was a great night for Irish actor Cillian Murphy and his TV show Peaky Blinders at the TV Choice Awards on Monday, with it winning both the Best Actor and Best TV Show gongs.

The Cork-born star was up against some stiff competition for the Best Actor award, including our own Aidan Turner who had been nominated for Poldark. Other actors nominated were Martin Clunes and William Beck of Casualty fame.

Also at the awards, which are voted for by the general public, Michelle Keegan was named Best Actress for her role in the BBC drama Our Girl.

Elsewhere, Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway was named Best Entertainment Show and Best Soap gong went to Coronation Street. The Best Soap Actress award went to Emma Atkins for her role in Emmerdale. Danny Dyer picked up the Best Soap Actor award for his part in EastEnders. And the Best Soap Newcomer went to Emmerdale's Ned Porteous.

Speaking about his role in the soap, Ned Porteous told Bang Showbiz: "It does still feel new, I do still feel like a newbie. It's been about a year and two months. It's been very, very fast. The scale of work we put out does make time move very quickly."
