You won't want to miss the arresting new single from newcomer Conor Thornton...
Conor Thornton has shared 'Blue Room', the final single from his project Despair & Devotion in XS City. The concept album, he explains on his Bandcamp page, is about "Vick Valentine, a nightclub singer who plays the lonely lounges of XS City.
"Haunted by the pain in his heart and the dreams of who he thought he’d be, Vick struggles to find his place in a world he no longer recognizes," he continues. 'Blue Room' is a stunning track, reminiscent of songwriting greats Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave. Complete with gorgeous string arrangements from Kenneth Rice, 'Blue Room's distinct film noir sensibilities border on gothic, and the alternative rock track broods with the singer-songwriter's ominous growl.
Thornton is inspired by Serge Gainsbourg’s sensuality, Vladimir Nabokov’s wordplay, Stanley Kubrick’s hidden details, David Lynch’s sense of mystery, and the fading, kitschy Vegas glamour of Elvis. Overall, an interesting and exciting new addition to the catalogue of Irish rock.
